Notification of School Closure or Other Emergencies

Below is the order in which Coos Bay Schools notifies parents, staff and the community of school closure or other emergencies.

Auto Caller – Parents/guardians of students and staff receive a phone call or email with the message. Please make sure your contact information is up to date. Your school’s office will be happy to assist you. A recording of the message will also be available at 541-267-6149.

Flash Alert
– Emails and/or texts of the message are sent to subscribers. Go to for more information on how to subscribe.

Media Outlets
– The media (TV, radio, newspaper) is notified via Flash Alert. They also receive a separate email from the district office.

Welcome to Coos Bay School District

The District is located on the South Central Oregon Coast in Coos County and has approximately 3,100 students from kindergarten through 12th grade. We have two K-3 primary schools, two intermediate schools for 4th through 7th graders and Marshfield High School serving students grades 8 through 12. The Harding Learning Center provides several alternative schooling options.

Upcoming District Events

Kindergarten New to the District Registration for 2017-2018 School Year

Coos Bay School District invites parents of upcoming kindergarten and new to the district students to register their students for the upcoming school year.

After July 15th, you can pick up a registration packet at Milner Crest Education Center, 1255 Hemlock Ave. in Coos Bay. (off N 10th St. above Mingus Park)

Kindergarten registration is for students who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2017. Please bring legal proof of birth date and immunization records.

We will be happy to assist you in determining which school your student will be attending.

FREE Summer Lunch Program with Art Cart in the Park

Free lunches will be provided for all kids, ages 2-18, Monday Friday at 11:15 -12:00 p.m. beginning June 26th August 23. (Closed July 4th)

Art Cart in the Park will offer FREE art projects right as the free lunch program is winding down for kids of all ages 3 days a week:

From June 19th August 18th, they will be at the following locations on the following days:

Mondays at Millicoma, Wednesdays at Boynton Park and Fridays at John Topits Park

Art Cart in the Park is sponsored by Coos Art Museum with help from the Autzen Foundation and Coos Bay Toyota.

Interdistrict Transfer Information

There have been changes in the law regarding interdistrict transfers. Under the new transfer law, these requests will be approved depending upon the availability of space in the grade level as determined by the School Board.

Approval of transfers are on hold until after August registration provides us with more reliable student numbers.

New Inter-District Transfer requests for students who reside outside of the Coos Bay School District need to be submitted using the form at the following link IDT Request 2017-18
