Good entry-level position

I worked at Firestone Complete Auto Care full-time (Less than a year)

Management was willing to work around school schedule.

The other techs were willing to teach if they had time and you asked.

If you are good at working fast, you can make a lot of money.

Get to work on many different cars.

Master tech gets his pick of the tickets, and if you re the new guy, you get stuck with the worst ones.

Lots of grunt work, basically cleaning up after everyone else.

Advice to Management

Make the new guy feel appreciated, and they ll go the extra mile for you. Master techs aren t your only employees.

Good Starting Point

They provide you with plenty of materials and work to be effective.

The work you are allowed to do is restricted by corporate policies and is trivial to skilled technicians.

Firestone Complete Auto Care Response

I have been working at Firestone Complete Auto Care full-time (More than 5 years)

Training is second to none. Corporate environment provides some structure that other businesses in this field lack.

Pay is sub-par unless your store is really performing. Hours are almost unbearable at times. The demands of the upper management are hard to achieve by yourself.

Advice to Management

Please stop handcuffing your employees. You want to squeeze blood from a rock. Your store manager s work very hard for you but when you ask them to cut hours and still grow the business it s an oxymoron. I myself work anywhere from 60-80hrs/wk and yet you want more. It s tough on an individual and very stressful. My overall health has suffered due to this job and it s demands. Please Help!

General Maintenance Technician

I worked at Firestone Complete Auto Care full-time

Good work environment, flat rate pay system allows you collect more hours than you actually work, regular name brand tool trucks, and many great opportunities to learn and flourish as a tech.

Very fast pace, hardly ever any time for lunch break, flat rate pay (sometimes hard to make money is business is slow), almost always work weekends and late nights, and a mandatory weekly uniform service fee.

Advice to Management

Keep schedules similar week to week, provide you employees time to eat since you are on your feet and working labor for 10 hours straight, provide customers honest wait times and recommendations to keep pressure off of tech s, and employ good service technicians to aid and learn from older and more experienced technicians.

Firestone Complete Auto Care Response

Overall a great company to start with

I have been working at Firestone Complete Auto Care full-time (More than a year)

Management is typically very helpful, accomodations are easily made at the store level, opportunity for growth and promotion, and Firestone has a tuition assistance program and a great 401k match.

Health insurance is still expensive and doesn t cover much at the base level. Relocation can be required in order to advance because there are only 3 management positions at the store level. Salary and hourly pay can be lower than you d like. Shortstaffing is an issue as well.

Advice to Management

Expectations should be made clear across the board – hammering constantly on credit applications and improvement over last year s numbers does nothing without finding the issue, providing the proper training, and leading from the front, not the rear. Another thing – it is not motivating to see deserving individuals who have been with the company get ousted due to politics or someone off of the street just because they have a Bachelor s degree.
