The graduate nursing programs here at the Nicole Wertheim College of Nursing Health Sciences (NWCNHS) prepare students for professional careers as Nurse Practitioners (NP). Today s nurse practitioners are educated to perform more procedures and enjoy more autonomy of practice than ever before. Serving as primary care providers for a multitude of patient groups in a variety of health care settings, the nurse practitioner will have an critical role in our health systems as access to health care becomes a reality for millions in this country. Nurse practitioners promote health and wellness through patient education and advocacy.

MSN graduates are qualified to apply for national certification in their specialty areas and for Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) certification through the Florida Board of Nursing. They also are eligible for doctoral level studies.

Post-Master s Nurse Practitioner Certificates

Adult-Gerontology | Child | Family | Psychiatric-Mental Health

Our Post-Master s Nurse Practitioner Certificate programs build upon a recent MSN degree to expand or enhance the knowledge and skills of the applicant in a clinical nursing major to manage the health and care of their clients.

These certificates are available to candidates who already hold an MSN degree from a NLNAC (National Leagues for Nursing Accreditation Commission) or CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) accredited program and wish to be nationally certified in another specialty area.

The FIU Graduate Nursing department offers Post-Master’s Nurse Practitioner Certificates in our clinical specialty tracks for Advanced Adult Gerontology, Family, Pediatric and Psychiatric-Mental Health nursing. Graduates qualify to sit for the national certification examination in their area of specialty.

Nurse Educator Certificate

Equal to the need for more nurses to practice in our health care systems is the need for nurse educators who will prepare them for their careers. Growing the pool of qualified, culturally competent nurse educators is an integral component to helping solve the nursing shortage and graduate more nurse professionals to serve in our communities.

FIU s Post-Master s Nurse Educator Certificate track is ideal for those individuals who have a desire to return to the classroom to marry their years of practical and clinical experience as nursing professionals combined with formal teaching methods to the learning benefit of the next generation of nurses.

This specialty certificate provides a unique combination of courses to prepare the graduate in the pedagogical competencies essential to teach nursing in an increasingly complex health care environment. The technologically enhanced plan of study builds on advanced professional nursing competencies and emphasizes the use of a variety of assessment, instructional, curricular development and evaluative strategies that facilitate learning in culturally diverse populations.

The Post-Master s Nurse Educator Certificate is offered as a single-track program or as part of a dual-track option in conjunction with a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree curriculum.
