What is a Medical Asssitant

Are you interested in becoming a Medical Assistant? What exactly does a Medical Assistant career entail? A Medical Assistant is an allied health occupation, where professionals perform clinical and administrative tasks to support the work of physicians and other healthcare professionals.

The Medical Assistant is a vital part of the healthcare team. Not only do they assist with hands on processes within the office, they also often serve as a medical administrative assistant that connects the physician with other healthcare entities including pharmacies, referring physicians, hospitals, and outpatient facilities, which provide real-time feedback to the physician regarding the progress of the patient. They also serve as a liaison between the physician and the patient, by communicating the physician’s orders, results from laboratory tests, and treatment plans directly to their patients.

Medical Assistants represent the medical office and the physician that they work under. They are often the direct link between the patient and physician.
